CostaLab Oaxaca is a two-week multidisciplinary art residency located on the stunning beaches of Oaxaca, designed for artists seeking time, space, and inspiration for the development of new work o start a new research.

The residency encourages experimentation, cultural exchange, and site-responsive practices across visual arts, performance, writing, sound, ecological, and interdisciplinary research.

To provide an immersive coastal environment where artists can explore new ideas, strengthen their creative process, and engage with the natural and cultural landscape of Oaxaca through research, production, and community dialogue.

what do we offer

A beachfront studio-house on the Oaxaca coast (Cacalote, Roca blanca)

  • Private or shared accommodations
  • Open-air studio spaces
  • Access to beach, vegetation, and local communities
  • Outdoor working areas for sculpture, sound, and installation
  • Cleaning and house maintenance

Not Included

  • Travels in any kind to/from Oaxaca
  • Production materials (or provide a small materials stipend)
  • Meals (or offer communal dinners as an add-on)

Program Structure

Week 1:

Immersion & Exploration

  • Artist introductions and guided orientation
  • Daily open studio time
  • Nature walks, sound walks, local artisan visits
  • Field trip in the area, according to the interests of each participant and their research topics.
  • Optional collaborative exercises

Week 2:

Production & Presentation

  • Dedicated time for research, depending on the artist 
  • One-on-one mentorship session
  • Final open studio / beach presentation (public or internal) depending on de artist.

Optional Add-Ons

  • Workshops with local craftspeople (ceramics, weaving, natural dyes)
  • Field recording trip to lagoons or mountains
  • Photo/video documentation of each artist’s project

The submission cost is 800 Mexican pesos
